My reverend Father

Foreword
Again more frequently than in the past centuries, the present
generations are submitted, in all nations of the world, to
the perilous danger of the written or oral exams, Nearly no
situation or no advancement in the careers, cannot be gotten
without this preliminary test.
There are some exams on all degrees of the social ladder!
Hardly the child knows him to read and to write, it is necessary
to present itself/themselves to examiners or inspectors.
And if a young man or a girl want to kiss a career liberal
or other, he must pass by a jury's sieve.
Every year, during the most beautiful period of the existence,
it is necessary to live face-to-face with this dreaded nightmare!
In the vast regions of air, under the waves of the seas, as
on earth and under the waters of the streams: everywhere,
pilots of aéroplanes or ships, theologians, the artists,
musicians, physicians, pharmacists, lawyers, judges or notaries,
military, professors, male nurse, electricians, commanders
of submarines.. that I know.. Counter-Masters of factories
or drivers of furnace, didn't have to and don't owe their
situations and their livelihood that to the satisfactory exams.
Evidently, without dispute, the society has right to be protected
against the promotions unjust of the lazy persons, the inept
and the harmful.
However the exams have a few something of uncertain: an a
lot of docte candidate can be victim of a childish shyness;
a defect of memory or an excess of fatigue, after a long and
conscientious preparation, sometimes reduce the good pupils
them same to the most miserable of the failures. By tale,
there are people little studious favored of the fate; one
asks them for one of the rare questions of which they perfectly
possess the answer; then ‘audacities fortunas juvat,
' ' said the poet: ‘daring many ' are crowned of success..!
Candidates or candidates of all leaves, whatever is your exams
and tests, comfort yourselves!
The divine Providence that watches over hair of our heads,
didn't let your anguishes without protector, your efforts
without hope, your dangers without help. ' ' The very high
that made the earth produce the medicines that the judicious
man doesn't reject (Ecclesiastical, XXXVIII,4) presents you
in this day holy Joseph of Cupertino, Minor brothers Conventual,
as boss for all your exams. ' '
And while invoking it, you won't forget to follow the big
maxim of the Christ Jésus, the Supreme and Divine Wisdom
‘' first looks for kingdom of God and his/her/its justice,
and all the rest will be given you by addition… (Mathieu
VI,33)
Saint Joseph of Cupertino requires it like previous condition:
he/it wants that you have the intention right to be pleasing
to God in your studies, in your desires of success, in your
future position.
He/it wants to patronize you; but that your souls are in state
of grace: otherwise he/it lasted you as once to a young man
of mœurs little regular ‘' Va to wash the face,
you have the face covered with ink; .. echo of Jérémie,
the prophet of Israel, exclaiming,: ‘' Their face is
black as the good chariot… (Laments, IV,8)
In second place; believe well that he/it doesn't hear, by
his/her/its credit by the Virgin Marie, Dispensatrice of all
grant coming of the Lord, that he/it doesn't hear say me,
to encourage the laziness or the idleness, the presumption
or the pride. You tell him in his/her/its prayer ‘'
in spite of my numerous and prolonged eves, in spite of my
untiring work, in spite of the ingenious resources to which
I have recourse ‘' it means it; .. on one hand, oh Good
Saint, I wanted to work my exams as if you could not help
me and crown me of success; of the other I have confidence
in You, as if I had not made anything; ‘' so only '
' the one there one will be crowned that will have fought
lawfully (IIRTimontée, II,5.)
And finally to be pleasant to this Saint, you, and all your
brothers, the Christian, recommend him all others exams over
it, the two terrifying sessions by which will be us all obligated
to pass, in presence of the Judge Majestueux, the Most powerful
as the Most unbiased and Clear-sighted that either: the particular
Judgment after our last sigh and at the end of the centuries,
in presence of the universality of the humans complete, the
Judgment general ‘' because it is necessary that all
we are presented before the Christ's court, so that each receives
what is due to his/her/its body, according to what he/it made,
either the good, either the pain (II Corinthians, v,10)
What exams, those! Especially, what Inspector! (Ecclesiastical,
II,31.)
The enclosed novena is offered to all souls therefore.
She/it understands the answer to four questions:
1 that it is that Saint Joseph of Cupertino?
2 - why claim in his/her/its favor the patronage of examined
them?
3 - how to make the novena?
4 - what prayers to recite?
‘' scriban vanum duke, Virgo pia, manum..

chapter
That is that that holy Joseph of Cupertino
This Saint was born of devout parent (1) in Copertino, city of
the territory of Salente, to the diocese of Noardo (2) the year
of the salute 1603. Prejudiced of God's love, he/it spent there
in big simplicity and innocence of mœurs the years of the
childhood and adolescence. God's Virgin Mother having delivered
it of a stubborn and cruel patiently supported illness, he gave
himself/itself entire to the practice of the piety and virtues,
God called it to one superior life, and to unite more intimately
to him, Joseph résolut to give his/her/its name to the
seraphic order. After has various incidents, his/her/its desires
were finally granted to the Convent of the Grotella of the Miners
Conventuels. (3)
First orderly among the lay brothers for his/her/its ignoramuses
of the letters, a deposition of of it-high made it admit then
to the number of the Clerks. After his/her/its solemn Vœuxes
one raised it to the ministration, and it was again for him the
starting point of one life more perfect. Breaking toues from then
on the attachments of the world and stripping itself/themselves
so to speak of the necessary even, he/it afflicted his/its body
by the cilices, the chains, the disciplines, because all kinds
of punishments and torments, while he/it fed his/her/its mind
of the holy sweets of the prayer assiduously in the highest contemplation.
Also the divine charity, that, since the youngest age was spilled
already in his/her/its heart, she/it took in him every day of
admirable and all extraordinary growths. The ardor of his/her/its
very big love appeared especially in the very sweet ecstasies
that carried away it green God and the stupendous raptures that
were plain to him. Things admirable! If pronounced that the ecstasy
was, the only obedience immediately reminded it to it. He/it distinguished
himself/itself indeed by his/her/its goodwill for the practice
of this virtue, having as to say ‘' that she/it led it and
brought back it like a blind, and that he/it had preferred to
die rather than not to obey. »
The poverty of the Patriarch Séraphique had it for imitator
so faithful that, close to die, it can declare in all truth to
his/her/its Superior that it didn't have anything to resign as
makes religious others. Dead therefore to the world as to himself,
he/it showed in his/its flesh the life of the Lord Jesus, Him
that felt in some the ashamed odor of the impure vice, exhaled
his/her/its body a miraculous perfume; it is the sign of this
resplendent purity that, in spite of the efforts prolonged of
the foul mind to darken it, he/it had kept in a stain: Opposing
to the violence of the assaults a narrow care of his/her/its senses,
a continual steeping of his/her/its body. But this victory, he/it
owed it again to the particular protection of the very pure Virgin
Marie, that he/it had custom to call his/her/its Mother, that
he/it surrounded indeed like a very soft Mother of his/her/its
reverence and the most tender feelings of his/her/its heart. How
much big was not his/her/its desire to see venerated it also by
other of others, so that with his/her/its patronage, as he/it
said, they found all goods! The Blessed's solicitude came from
his very ardent charity for the neighbor; the goodwill of the
souls that was urgent it made him try by all means to procure
the salute of toues, His/her/its charity also spread to the needs
of the poor people, of the patients, of the grief-strickens of
all sorts, that it relieved as much as it was in it. He/it didn't
exclude those that pursued it of reproaches, of injuries, of outrages
of all kind, of it; he/it supported them with this same patience,
this same sweetness, this same happy affability that one lives
to shine in him in the middle of the infinite vicissitudes of
these residence changes that he imposed the Superior d the order
or the holy Inquisition. Us only the peoples, but also the princes
admired his/her/its eminent holiness, his/her/its supernatural
grants,; such was however his/her/its humility, that estimating
itself/themselves a big sinner.
He/it asked God urgently to move away of him the extraordinary
graces, and implored the men to throw his/her/its body after his/her/its
death in a place or his/her/its memory was erased entirely. But
God exalts the humble: He/it had during the happy life his/her/its
servant, enriching it of the wisdom of the sky, of the mind of
prophecy and discernment of the courses, of the power of the miracles,
of all grants,; He/it also returned his/her/its precious death
and his/her/its glorious sepulcher, Joseph died to the times and
place that he had predicted before, in the sixty-first year of
his/her/its age, in Osimon in the Marche of Acône. His/her/its
miracles, continuing after his/her/its death to put it in light,
Benoît XIV writes down it in the pomps of the Blesseds;
Clement XIII in those of the Saints; Clement XIV, that was the
same Order, spread the office and the Mass of it to all the Église.(4)
Saint Joseph of Cupertino is not an unknown on the sides of the
Saint-Laurent. At the time of the French Revolution of 1793, some
emigrants brought this Saint's distinguished relics there. In
1897, the rector of the Laval university of Quebec, My Lord J.C.K.
- Laflamme, of docte memory, went to Auteuil near Paris, and endowed
the sanctuary of Joseph saint of Cupertino of some of his/her/its
relics.
Of other part thanks to the understanding research of My Lord
Am. Gosselin, P.A., ex-rector, and archidiacre of Quebec, me then
to affirm that the university Quebecois possessed:
1 - a parcel of one dawn of which holy Joseph himself served eset,
The authentic is given under the weapons and the seal of the Cardinal
Ranuzzi in 1790.
2 - a parcel of his/her/its flesh, authentiquée the 17septembre
1769, to the convent of the Saints Apostles, in Rome, by the general
Minister of the Conventual, the Rme Father Dominique-André
Rossi, of Pésaro.
3 - this same University keeps currently in one his/her/its big
shrines, ‘'S of the parcels of bone, hair and garment ‘'S
of our Saint. In 1900, S.E. the Cardinal Bégin recognized
them like authentic, and sealed them of the seal of the archdiocese.
There are for the relics.
There is more.
In 1899, His/her/its Size Mgr.F. - X.Cloutier erected in the picturesque
and forest valley of the Mékinac, affluent of the Saint-Maurice
to the north of the County of Champlain, a parish under the name
of the famous Conventual. It is the only one, to my knowledge,
in Canadian earth. That these pages go until this region, and
sharpen at his/her/its inhabitants the most filial and complete
confidence towards their powerful Titular!!!
Reference:
1 - the saint's father was a woodworker. His/her/its mother, Francesca
Panara, gave him the day in a stall. Our Saint was called in the
world Joseph Désa, and was baptized in the church Notre-Dame
of the Snow, in Cupertino.
2 - Nardo (Neritonensis) is in the province of Lecce, Italy Southerner,:
his/her/its bishopric depends directly on the Holy See. Italy
looking like a human leg that gives a kick in Sicily: such the
player of soccer: Nardol is in the heel of this leg. Ancona, Foundation
and Lorettes are on the contrary at the center is Italy, above
Rome
3 as Joseph saint enters among the Conventual and the Capuchins,
I remind to the reader the following historic notions:
The seraphic Father holy François founded the unique Order
of the Minor Brothers April 16, 1209, on the bases of an absolute
poverty. But in 1527, by his/her/its bubbles ‘' Ite and
Your and Omnipotens ' ' Léon X must constitute two distinct
branches.
has - the one of the Observing: only their General received the
ancient seal of the order with the title of Minister Général.
b - The one of the Conventual, that was dispensed lawfully of
the IV chapters and Vis of the rule of François saint.
Their superior didn't take the title of Minister Général
of the Conventual that in the VII the century and it is Magpie
VII, to the beginning of the XIXe century, that gave them the
present dress that they carry, dress that makes them confound
with the Augustineses, except the rope.
c - A miner Observing, the Father Mathieu Baschi, made himself/itself
the promoter of a third branch: Named first hermits of François
saint, they were named ‘' Capuchins ' ' then because of
the shape more stretched out and ample of the capuce: Clement
VII in the brief ‘' Zelus ' ' of the 3juillet 1528 granted
them the favor to lead life érémitique while following
the whole rule of François saint faithfully. The Father
Mathieu went there in the observance died saintly in 1552. Finally
since the bubble ‘' Felicitate ' ' of Léon XIII (1897)
the word ‘' Observant, Récollets, Reformed, Alcatarins
' 'S don't exist anymore: There are only some ‘' Brothers
Minor ' 'S, finally Note that before the council of Constancy
(1414-1418) the order had produced 17 saints and 39 blesseds;
since, the Capuchins gave 5 saints and 9 blesseds; the Conventual
1 blesseds and 1 saint (our famous Joseph of Cupertino); the Minor
Brothers, 29 saints and 59 blesseds. The Conventual have the tombs
of François saint and holy Antoine, with the two splendid
basilica of foundation and Padua,; the Minor Brothers have the
cradle of the order ‘' the Portioncule ‘' so expensive
to François saint and The Averne, or he/it was stigmatized;
and finally the Custodie of Earth Saint. It is the only general
of the Minor Brothers who keeps the ancient seal of the order
currently.
4-L'Ordre of the Minor Brothers gave five Popes in the Saint Church.
Nicolas IV (1288-1292) (are general); Nicolas V (1447-1455); Sixte
IV (1471-1484); Sixte-Quint (1585-1590); Clement XIV (1769-1774)
Besides: The Third Order Franciscan account ten Popes among his/her/its
members:
Grégoire IX (1227-1241); Jules II (1503-1513); Léon
X (15113-1521); Innoncent XII (1691-1700); VI magpie (1775-1799);
IX magpie (1846-1878); Léon XIII (1878-1903; X magpie (1903-1914);
Benoît XV (1914-1922); XI magpie (1922---) when the book
was written
On 91 holy and holy canonized, children of François saint,
there are only eighteen whose cult is spread to all the Latin
church of them:
Saint Françoise Roman (March 9)
Saint Jean of Capistan (March 28)
Faithful Saint of Sigmaringen (April 24)

Why claim in favor of Joseph saint of Cupertino the patronage
of examined them?
That my reader doesn't mistake himself/itself of it here. Only
our Mother the Saint Church has authority to choose among the
celestial inhabitants of the Jerusalem of in-top, the one or the
one that it judges worthy to be honored in a special manner for
one or the other category of supporters: either in view of some
necessities, either in favor of an opens apostolate, teaching,
or charity, and she/it always takes as a basis, while awarding
the glorious title of ‘' boss or protective, ' ' on incontestable
facts and big value: proving that God Him-even likes to make itself/themselves
honor this manner in one or the other of his/her/its saints, to
that He/it has départi Himself the most varied grants,
So Our - Lady of Lorette has the title of Manager of the aviators,
holy Jean Chrysostome is boss of the sacred speakers and preachers,
holy Vincent of Paul the one of the charity works, holy François
Xavier, S.J. the one of the Propagation of the faith, holy Ignace,
S.J. the one of the spiritual Exercises; holy Thomas of O.P Aquin.
has the body of employers of the schools, and holy Pascal Baylon
O.F.M. the one of the Conventions and Œuvres Eucharistiques;
Camille saint of Lellis must protect the charitable male nurses,
and holy Leonardo of Port-Maurice O.F.M. must make in the same
way for the missionaries in Catholic countries.
On the other hand, the Virgin-Martyrdom holy Apolline is invoked
against a pain terrifying fright of the young as old the pain
of teeth. His/her/its cruel martyrdom in his/her/its jaws was
the reason of it. And although l ' Church didn't confirm of its
official sanction this precious cult; however we see knows it
Bishop of Geneva, François of Dirty, to resort with success
to the intercession of this virgin of Alexandria; all as the same
Antoine saint of Padua, o.f.m., a special power to make recover
the lost things.
Saint Joseph of Cupertino is invoked for a long time, with the
most marvelous efficiency, for the success of the exams. In Naples,
in Auteuil near Paris, and elsewhere with the approval of the
Bishops, one returns him some considerable homages in this goal.
Why will you tell me?
Few saints, even the Blessed Cleaned of Ars, had studies as laborious
that him.
Small schoolchild, to the sound of l ‘organ or the song,
he/it fell in ecstasy; his/her/its book escaped him of the hands;
he/it remained immobile, the half-opened mouth, the œil fixed
at the sky: and his/her/its friends nicknamed it ‘' the
mouth open ‘': then Joseph didn't know the lessons and..
the master had to not be some satisfies very.
At the Fathers Capuchins, or he/it entered after his/its first
exit of at the Conventual, one dismissed it like ‘missing
' of mind, faculties, and very health for the manual works; his/her/its
ecstasies the exhibitor to the most humiliating clumsiness. '
'
And finally received again at the Conventual in June 1625 as ‘'
clerk, ' ' one didn't want to admit it to the ministration: because
he/it hardly succeeded in expressing correctly some syllables,
to read enough badly and to write more badly again!
But the soft Virgin Marie, the Seat of Wisdom, the Help of the
Christian, the Mother of the divine Light, watched over its dear
customer Joseph; against all. She/it wanted it priest of Jesus
his/her/its divine Son, and made it order; here it is how.
The bishop of Nardo, Jérôme of Clear, knew the brother
Joseph and had a high opinion of his/her/its holiness. Without
to difficulty he/it conferred him the minor Orders January 3,
1627, and the under-diaconat following February 27. He/it was
even had quite to promote it in the Diaconat when one of his/her/its
familiar recalled him the necessity of the previous canonical
exam.
Joseph must present himself/itself.
Full trustworthy in the Divine Providence, and internally insured
of Marie's special aid, he/it appeared before the Prelate, who
asks the Saint Gospel. To open at random, and to fall on the the
verse 27-28 of the XI chapter of Luc saint. ‘' a woman raising
the voice of the middle of the crowd says (to Jesus): Blissful
the innards that carried You, and the breast qu fed You, ' ' But
Jesus tells to him: ‘' Yes, certainly; but a lot happier
those that listen to God's words and put it in practice. ' ' He/it
asked Joseph then to comment this passage.
The Saint sketched a smile, and let sink his/her/its heart aflame
by the mind-Saint again more that of his/her/its lips, of the
words worthy of a Mr. in sacred theology.
Consequently Joseph was made Deacon March 20, 1627. The ministration
was given him in Bogiardo, in the cape of Otrante, March 4, 1628
by My Lord J.B.Deti, bishop of Castro, (currently Acquapendente,
near Rome) stern prelate and dreaded of all ordinands. The first
interrogated having all admirably answered: Joseph and the last
were dispensed of all question by the very satisfied bishop.
It is therefore the previous exam our Saint's diaconat, that was
worth him to attract the cœurses and the piety of those that
must face the dangers of the candidacy. |

How to make the novena?
All prayer must be attentive, humble, confident and persistent,
if one wants that the Lord welcomes it favorably: ' ' asks and
you receive...! (Jean XV, 224)
Ever the prayer accompanied by these four qualities and made with
a right intention, is not repulsed: especially if she/it passes
by the maternal hands of the a lot of Saint Virgin Marie, who
embalms all that they touch.
However God reserves in his paternal Love for us, and according
to the very merciful secrets of his/her/its infinite Wisdom, either
to differ the wanted effect of it, either to replace the object
of our requests by a best kindness.
But He/it always grants the true supernatural goods, if one is
not distrustful or presumptuous to his/her/its consideration.
As holy Joseph of Curpertino was right to say: ‘' confides
yourselves in God and always ask it. Who gets, has the good to
have received; who doesn't get has the good to have asked. This
is how each comes back loaded of the riches of the Lord. ' '
As for the temporal grants, follow the divine maxim: ‘'
first looks for God's kingdom: and the rest will be given you
by addition. ' '
It is in order to obey this infallible sentence, that we place
as dialogue between Joseph saint of Cupertino and his/her/its
customer in novena, first some good thoughts on nine virtues necessary
to the candidates, as well as many opinions of convenient order,
for the success of their exams,: not forgetting the adage: ‘'
helps you, and the Sky will help you. ' '
Reprocessing it will meditate these lines therefore to simple
and familiar shape. They can be for him the conductive son who
will facilitate him the exercise of a supplication better prepared,
more intense, more introverted, that will be only more pleasant
of it to the Very High! |

First
day The Prudence ‘' prudent Estotes: Be prudent. ' ' (S.
S. Mathieu, X,16.)
Saint Joseph
Before maintaining me with you, my dear customer, of the virtues
théologales that unites the souls to God, especially honors
It and makes then of you the Christian truth an elected; I want
to speak to you some cardinal virtues, that similar to the hinges
on which lean and roll the doors of your such paternal home is
the sense of the mount ‘' cardinal ' ' adjust and direct
the moral life, and makes of you a ‘' man ' ' in the elevated
sense, noble, while encouraging the acquirement, the exercise,
the fruits of all others virtues. In vain the architect constructs
him a house, if the foundations are not strong: from there the
word of Our Lord. : ‘' he/it looks like a silly that builds
on the sand: rains come, the floodings arrive, winds blow, found
on the building…, and there is a considerable ruin. ' '
(Mathieu, VII, 27,26.)
The customer.
Thank you for your good words, I understood well, and I am in
a hurry to know what is the first basis, the first hinge of my
moral life.
Saint Joseph
It is the prudence. His/her/its office consists in foreseeing,
to deal with all possibilities, to watch over the set of your
life as on his/her/its details, on accomplish it of each of your
duties, of your thoughts, desires, words, actions, on the value
and the results of your hidden or public acts,. It is her that
supervises all thing and all person of his/her/its two heedful
eyes, for in to know the value, the supernatural or natural consequences,:
profits or losses. The seraphic doctor, my brother religion, holy
Bonaventure o.f.m. Cardinal-Bishop of Albano, said of her ‘'
that she illuminates on the knowledge of our duties, directs us
in their achievement is opposite God, of the church, the society,
the neighbor, the events, of ourselves,. She/it instructs us on
the line of conduct to follow, on the manner to let direct us
by the authority, on the way to treat each person and every thing
wisely. She/it teaches us the art of the precedences: making us
prefer the truly to the forgeries, the good to the bad, the certain,
the certain to the doubtful, the honest to the squalid, the divine
to the human, the useful to the pleasant, the necessary to the
useful, the occult to the terrestrial, the eternal to the passenger.
She/it inclines us therefore to not to disregard any means, no
labor no sacrifice, if he/it has a noble, precious, eternal goal
reached, as is the love of God and the salute. ‘' Voyez:
in sea when a ship is about to sink, to alleviate it one throws
to the sea all goods even most precious; it is a loss, it is true,
but she/it becomes a gain since she/it preserves the ship of the
wreck and his/her/its passenger of the death; while all goods,
if they cause the casting of the building, are lost nevertheless,
and the human lives with them. It is her finally that learns you
the science to challenge you of the partisans of the world, who
are the blinds, whose false wisdom is Jesus' enemy the divine
Wisdom and the true Light. She/it inspired you the sage mistrust
of yourself, of your science, of vote virtue,; she/it will counsel
you to consult the most aged or doctes or holy than you, she/it
will stop you from speaking or to act in case of agitation, of
trouble, of joys or too quick pains, especially when it is about
business serious: she/it will dictate you to ask, to consult,
to think especially in the fundamental business of your vocation,
by far. |

Second
Day
Strength
‘' Confortamini and viriliter agitates: Take courage and
act in a manly fashion. ' ' (1 Macabées, II,64.) to
Saint Joseph
Sœur the prudence, the virtue defines itself by force by
his/her/its office, that is to sustain us in the middle of the
labors, fatigues, the tests, the pains, and to make us such supporter
the oak under the storm temptations and difficulties without bending.
Strength must be therefore your inseparable companion, my dear
customer, or you had to suffer, or it fails you to act, either
for resists to the pain, cruel or charming, either to practice
the good.
The Customer
Do you believe, dear Saint, that before thirty or forty years,
do I need this virtue?
But I am young, I have a generous blood, of the steel nerves,
a good health all me smiles; and I am played in the middle of
the difficulties, that are well rare for me of the rest. Having
the easiness and the memory, even not moving back if need be from
a small lie, I always pull myself very business.
Saint Joseph
He/it won't always be in the same way some, dear customer. You
have in spite of your young age need to cultivate the virtue by
force. You have since your studies the more the elementary the
duty to obey your parents, and to your master; such the Jesus
child in Nazareth. You must study, conscientiously your lessons,
to make your duties, to keep the given explanations, to really
think on the principles of every matter, to pull the logical findings
of it, to place in the cells of your young brain every science
proportioned to your age and to accustom you to the reflection.
Don't imitate the parrot who repeats without understanding that
that he/it hears, nor the hare of the fable who lost his/her/its
contest, in spite of the few of readiness of his/her/its competitor..
the turtle ' ', to the slow steps. However the conscientious work
requires you a lot of sacrifices and demand of the character strength.
Then, the obedience is not always pleasant: she/it supposes, the
support of people, she/it requires the humility that is - to say
the ‘big ' me, ' ' that is sometimes a giant as Goliath,
at many young people or girls, too much spoiled, too accustomed
to make their wills by their own parents. Then the Christian law
is a life disciplines it military in view of the sky. Saint Paul
calls it thus Job ‘' a militia; ' ' he said: ‘' one
good soldier of the Christ Jésus (II Timothy 11,3). However
maybe one can be balance without strength, without energy, without
virility?
The customer
And what fruits would I withdraw from so many deprivations?
To this price must life be intolerable?
Saint Joseph
On the contrary. Good will, pain will, it is necessary to suffer
on earth, instead of suffering here below with merit and with
glory to the sky!, you would be a coward, a nervous that was all,
a soft wax without consistence; and the demon by his/her/its supports
and the world will make of you their slave. The men will despise
you, and you will be useless to all and to all. On the other hand
the strong knows how to defeat itself, doesn't know how to be
afraid of nothing, since he/it trusts in grace of God and solicit
respectable his/her/its foolhardiness nor presumption nor mistrust
his/her/its paternal rescues. Armed of this shield, that protects
it against the features of his/her/its enemies (and they are vairés
and numerous! ), he/it knows how to make all his/her/its duty,
as God wants it; he/it knows how to defeat the passions and caprices;
he/it knows how to repulse their charming decoys, but poisoned;
he/it knows how to soak without weakening his/her/its lips to
the chalice of the pain; he/it knows how to pay his/her/its person
for the utility of the church, of the state, of his/her/its family,
of the good œuvres. In short, it is a man ‘' vir '
'; ' ' and animate of the faith mind, it is a ‘' good soldier
of the Christ Jesus ' '
The customer
Very rare are these valiant?
Saint Joseph.
No matter the fate of the other. Be this brave, be this worker,
be this indomitable. And to follow my advice, from now on, invoke
all heart the strong Woman par excellence. The one that has suffered
here below and that, Oh! my sublime… while his/her/its Jesus
died on the cross, was close to Him standing… Stabat! (Litany,
page 61). |

The
third day The justice.
‘' Indulti loricam justitix: Covered of the breastplate
of the justice. (Éphésiens, VI'14.)
Saint Joseph.
My dear customer, I go today to recall you a word of Augustin
saint: "The man is a will. ' ' will, there is the big wheel
of the chariot therefore, there is the main piece in you. As the
rest, she/it received her/its injury, his/her/its venom, of Adam's
sin,: It is the mischief, perverse inclination that consists in
not liking the good and to look for the pain, to carry itself/themselves
of instinct toward the personal interest, to them depend of God,
the neighbor and their respective rights.
The customer.
Good Saint, what is his/her/its remedy.
Saint Joseph
To help will and also to rectify it, to consolidate it as much
that possible, as telling him to return to God this qu is God's
and Caesar what is Caesar's, the cardinal virtue of justice is
there.
The customer
Then she/it is vast in his/her/its functions that I didn't think.
I didn't tax injustice, before hearing you today, that the only
thieves and the people who destroy goods or that rape the another's
rights, without even to become some richer.
Saint Joseph
Yes, The justice, said holy Thomas of Aquin, it is ‘' a
constant and usual disposition of will that is urgent us to grant
to each his/her/its right. ' ' And my contemporary Bossuet added,
' ' she asks to sustain itself/themselves a firm and vigorous
mind, that cannot be shaken by complaisance (nor flattery) nor
the interest (money or honors or positions or promises or threats),
nor no other human weakness. ' '
Have yourselves very included the fundamental mount: ‘'
to each his/her/its right. ' '
The customer
Want yourselves, good Saint, to enter in the detail,
Saint Joseph
Well gladly. You owe to God, to your superior, to your equals,
and to your superior (when you will have some) some debts.
To God, the a lot of Augustus Trinité, to each of the Adorable
People, the Father, the Son, the Saint Mind, you owe the constant
tribute of the penitence that repairs the injuries and the rights
of the Lord, otherwise you will perish. Therefore injustice cards
if you live without compunction of the heart and exercises of
penitences. You also owe Them the sincere and deep homages that
the religion, as virtue, advertising on his/her/its turn. The
religion asks you for the acts of the outside cult accomplished
with a filial and loving heart: she/it also asks for the tribute
of excellent of the love: because ‘' you will like the Lord
of all your heart, of all your mind, of all your strengths, body
and soul. ' ' almost infinite Debts I would say; and one remains
always underneath, alas, of their sacred requirements!
These same debts you owe them to Christ Our Lord, or you considered
it at the tabernacle, to the Mass, to the Communion, or in his/her/its
mysteries: at Christmas, during the Passion, to the right of his/her/its
Celestial Father.
And your account book understands again, dear customer, a multitude
of other credences due to the society of the sky and the earth.
It is first the a lot of Saint Virgin Marie: She/it is your unceasing
Benefactress, your Empress, your true spiritual mother,: yes,
oh! yes; it is there ‘' Carissima Mamma, the very dear Mom
‘' as I called it once in my soft Italian language.
It is your guardian angel, your celestial and powerful mate of
life, and then your father and mother, you ancestors, your brothers
and sœurs, your inbred, for that the justice asks respectively,:
obedience, respect, aid, affection.
Add your terrestrial homeland, that is your family's extension:
Jesus was good citizen; make honors in your country, and give
him until the blood of your veins to defend his/her/its rights,
his/her/its glories, his/her/its earths, his/her/its language!
And the Saint Catholic Church, your mother, who generated you
on the day of your baptism, and his/her/its supreme chief the
Pope, and Eminence your Bishop, of your ready, and those that
give you the bread of the divine speech and sacraments: to them
all, each in his/her/its rage, your son's love submitted, your
indefectible attachment, your docility and your generosity: well
more, valiant knight, you won't refuse to defend them against
the release and against Satan's hostile accomplice. Rear the human
respect, shame to the crossed arms!
You will respect your professors, your masters, your temporal
superior,: holy Paul faded the conduct of those that only obeys
under the œil that observes them ad ‘' oculum servientes.
' ' (Éphésiens, VI.9)
You will respect toue dignity, you will obey all authority legitimizes
civil and temporal even: ‘' returns to Caesar what is Caesar's.
' '
Don't imitate the without heart that forget their benefactors.
You will be right, true, gracious, equitable towards your equals:
respecting their soul, their reputation, their honor, their physical
assets. Escape the pestilence of the ruse, the daring judgment,
the double-dealing, the false balance. (Proverbs, XI,1): Do be
never a very opportunity moved away of sin for no one, even smallest:
for all, ‘' is the good odor of Christ ' ' (II Corinthians,
II,15)
And when the Providence will establish you on other homes, whatever
is your use or positon you will facilitate their respect and obedience
to your consideration, while dedicating you to their utility and
service, keeping the punishing and rewarding justice and the legitimate
contracts scrupulously.
The customer
Thank you, dear Saint. Yes I want to be constantly the good covered
soldier of the breastplate of the justice.
Saint Joseph.
Now invoke all Marie heart, the mirror of all justice, while finally
reciting his/her/its litanies. |

Fourth
day The temperance
‘' That mel multum comedit no is here bonum. ' '
It is not good to eat a lot of honey. (Proverb, XXXV,27.)
Saint Joseph
One day, I met the sister Claire and asked him to want to really
go in the family Giuli to collect a little honey for the religious
of my convent. She/it made the commission punctually. Occurring
there same, I touched the pot of honey; sudden he/it overflowed,
and one must look quickly for another vase to collect the miraculous
fluid that increased under my hands. So I returned to the Giulis
the good honey that they had given us by charity faithfully.
The customer
Probably, dear Boss, you have today some good honey to make sink
your lips, because I read ‘' puts sub lingua eius: there
is some that have the honey under their languages… You are
the number, because you are face-to-face to the sky with the Lord,
of which David said ‘' that your words are soft to my palace;
they even surpass the sweet honey! ‘' (Psalm CXVIII,103)
Saint Joseph
It is true, God's speech prevails over honeys and nectars of the
earth, Today I want to speak to you the cardinal virtue of temperance;
lend me your attention, because she/it will learn you to use all
pleasure moderately permitted if symbolized well by the precious
work of the assiduous bee.
The customer
How it, good Saint,
Saint Joseph
You know it, the human soul has four powers, that feel all of
the miserable injuries of Adam's sin. The reason, often unreasonable,
has need to be healed and consolidated by the virtue of prudence;
will by the justice; the desire to get in anger must wait for
his/her/its recovery of strength, as for the ardent thirst of
the pleasures, it must be he by the temperance.
See yourselves, dear customer, you are born for happiness, you
inhale all your strengths there, you prance to impregnate marrows
of it themselves of your bones: it is not necessary to have eighteen
years to give himself account of it. But on the earth full happiness
doesn't exist; it is necessary for you tasting, appear it or the
elected ‘'S will be intoxicated of the abundance of God's
house and will be watered of the torrent of his/her/its delights,
because of it is Him the fountain of Life… (Psalm XXXV,9.)
However this waiting irritates the men. From there comes that
tired of this delay, a lot of imprudent deceived by the examples,
doctrines, readings and conversations of the worldly sacrifice
the reality for the shade, and not stealing the true peace promised
to the Christian docile of the gospel, want to deceive the thirsty
lips to the soup of the terrestrial pleasures; honeyed cut on
the sides, but full actually of a gall empoissonné.
The customer
Why have ourselves therefore then of the tendencies so violent
for the pleasure under all his/her/its shapes, if we cannot satisfy
them: I don't not often hear my friends to exclaim ‘' It
is necessary that youth passes… ' '… ' ' takes to
profusion wine and perfumes, and let's not let pass the flowers
of the season: let's crown ourselves of roses before they fade,
come therefore, let's take advantage of the present goods, let's
precipitate ourselves to enjoy the created things.. (Wisdoms,
II, 7-8-6.)
Saint Joseph
These words are those of the impious. Know it, dear customer,
all pleasure is not guilty. But God created the legitimate satisfactions
to act as means of observes his/her/its law easily: such the drop
of oil that the mechanic pours in his/her/its machine, in order
to help it, to function better, to not to get rusty, nor damage.
The machine is not made for oil, but it is the oil that is made
for the machine. That would say yourselves one of your friends
that would have here below for goal that to drink and to eat.
The temperance is the big and wise modératrice: she/it
teaches to keep in the whole weight, the order, the measure, to
escape all excess,: the too much, and the too little. In short,
she/it makes the weighted! Ah! that they are virtuously rare the
balanced, that know to keep the happy medium, outside of which
one doesn't see to decorate with flowers science, nor art, nor
holiness, nor the good bodily health.
The customer
I understood, dear Boss, your thought. Stay up to itemize me the
practice of it.
Saint Joseph
God is the big model of temperance. See his/her/its œuvres,
nothing exceeds, nothing misses; to look at the total, nothing
is bigger nor smaller than it is necessary. Copy the Lord therefore
by love, and you will be temperate.
The temperance learns you to use food, beverages and other things
useful to your position and state, according to the reason illuminated
by the faith.
The temperance must adjust your inside: she/it stimulates the
routine and lazy: keeps the daring; excite the weak and makes
some some oaks; softens the unmanageable, and takes them supple
as the reed, she/it moderates the fires of the ardent and the
daring and the peppery; she/it overheats the shy, the egoists
and the frozen, mildly she/it corrects the virtues while stopping
them from becoming vices by excess or defect. To the outside,
she/it composes the attitude, giving him the dignity and the ease,
the gracious simplicity and the reserve,; she/it hunts the pomposity
of the language and the vulgarity, she/it makes dark in words
without muteness nor verbiage, contained with cordiality and loving
with discretion, right without brutal exemption or hypocritical
reticence, cheerful without buffoonery or black mood. She/it curbs
according to the faith and the virtue the inclinations and the
repulsion of the character, as well as the inclinations of the
heart. She/it wants you scientist but according to your means
and God's will on you; she/it wants you disciple of honor, but
without foolhardiness, pose, artifice or double-dealing and pride,
she/it wants you ‘' holy happy ' ' but not exceeding in
adornment, playfulness and ‘expansion so you copy from afar,
but you will copy the sweet and noble attitude of the Christ Jesus
‘that made all thing well. ' ' (Marc, VII,37) In this goal,
recite the Virgin's litanies-Marie. |
