Léon XIII, Pope,

For perpetual memory.
The God of all providence, while organizing the strong and soft one-handed world at a time, surrounded the church of a solicitude all special. At the most critical hours, He/it pulls for her, of the very difficulty of the time, of the unhoped-for consolations, bus makes contested many times, can be noticed more distinctly than ever in the circumstances that the religion and the society cross currently. Then, indeed, that the enemies of the common order, himself that showing more daring from day to day, endeavor, by daily attacks, endeavor, by very vigorous attacks, to annihilate the Christian faith and to upset the society all whole, the divine goodness likes opposing like a worthy powerful to these raised streams, of admirable demonstration of piety.

It is clearly proven by the extension that to hold the devotion to Jesus' Sacred Cœur; by the ardor with which, in all the universe, one works to promote Marie's cult; by the honors of which are the object the famous Spouse of God's Mother; by the various meetings organized by the Catholics to defend their faith; finally, by a big number of institutions that one founds or to which one gives a new flight and that offer to the glory of God or the growth of the mutual charity of the Christian.

Although all these demonstrations procure at our heart a joy hoes soft, We think that the most signaled grace that has been granted us by God, it is the progress of the devotion towards the Sacrament of the Eucharist permitted the supporters, following the famous Conventions held to this end in this last time. As well as we declared it elsewhere, to enliven the Catholics to profess their faith valiantly and to practice the virtues that suit the Christian, no means are not more efficient than to feed and to increase the piety of the peoples towards this ineffable pledge of love, tie of the peace and the unit.

As the topic is very important and dyes Us strong to heart, after having rented the Conventions and the Associations eucharistiques, propelled by the hope to see to produce them of the more abundant fruits, often Us judge useful now to assign them a Boss Céleste, chosen between the saints that one been scorched of a more ardent love towards the very Saint Sacrament of the Eucharist.

However, among the saints of which the piety with regard to this sublime mystery appeared to appear with a devotion more ardent, PASCHAL BALYON holds the first rank. Gifted of a very deep taste for the celestial things after having spent his/her/its youth saintly to the care of his/her/its herd, he/it kissed a sterner life in the order of the Minor Brothers of the strict observance, and by the contemplation usual of the august mysteries, he/it arrived to a knowledge more perfected of this love Sacrament. This man, destitute of notions and literary faculties, became capable to give some answers on the most difficult dogmas and of exclaims even of the piety books. He/it overtly professed in front of the heretics the truth of the Eucharist, what attracted him the bass tones persecutions, emulator of the Tharcisius martyr, he/it was threatened several times of the death. Finally, the loving ardors of his/her/its piety appeared to continue beyond his/her/its deadly life. One says, indeed, that, during his/her/its funeral service, spread in his/her/its coffin, Pascal opened two times the eyes, at the time of the two elevations.

We believe that the Catholic Associations of which We didn't speak would know how to be confided to a better patronage. It is why, as well as We recommend the studious youth to Thomas saint of Aquin, the charitable associations to Vincent saint of Paul, the patients and those that take care to relieve them to Camille saint of Lellis and to Jean saint of God; in the same way, hoping that Our decision encouraged the interest and the a lot of Christendom, We declare and we constitute, of our supreme authority, and according to the present letters, SAINT PASCHAL BAYLON BOSS SPÉCIAL of the conventions and toues the associations that have for object the divine Eucharist, so much as those that suckled constituted jusqu 'on this day and those that it will be dan the future,

Soft form vœux full of hope so that the examples and the patronage of this big Saint have for fruit the increase of the number of those that, among the supporters, dedicate every day their goodwill, their projects, their love, to the Christ Sauveur.

Given in Rome, by Saint - Pierre, under the Fisher's ring, November twenty-eight, thousand eight hundred, ninety-seven, the twentieth years of Our Pontificate.

Léon XIII, POPE,

To the Readers of the Franciscan edition

In the letter of May 28, 1928, the R.P. Victorin Facchinetti allowed it '' Collection Pax and Bonum '' to translate in French and to publish his/her/its small work on Pascal saint.

This translation prepared with care by the R.P.Barthélemy is presented to our readers,

After the apostolic Léon XIII, declaring holy Pascal, Boss of the Convention Eucharistiqueses, and the Author's preface, follows a historic survey of '' the Eucharist and holy François.'

Our Tertiary will see with pleasure, to pass under their looks, the saints of the three Franciscan Orders devoted to the Very Saint Sacrament.

They will read with interest the life of him '' Predestined of the Eucharist '', the existence in the Franciscan cloister of him '' Seraph of the Eucharist', and they will admire the diligence of '' the apostle of the Eucharist ''.

In the last chapter,.. the Eucharist and us ''. They will pull some findings practice and will find in the notes, of information on '' the indulgences and Eucharist ''.

As this monograph is published on the occasion of congressional of Sydney and in forecasting of the one of Carthage, a total view of the work of the Convention Eucharistiqueses will be able to serve to orient the devotion eucharistique of our readers.

If all sons of the church have the duty to listen to with respect the Pope's voice, who, more that the Minor Brothers, the Clarisseses and the tertiary Franciscans, must follow with more of submissiveness the papal directions?

Also, approaching the ninth twenty convention international eucharistique, they will give Catholic sense proof while being interested, at least by the prayer, to this new triumph of our beloved King.

Doesn't the mind of François saint govern this movement eucharistique? If Miss Tamisier inspires these demonstrations, the brothers tertiary Philiberts and Paul Féron-Vrau appear the first promoters of it.

Since 1880, we count ten colleagues international eucharistiques, in France,: Lille, Avignon, Toulouse, Paris, Reims, Paray-Le-Monial, Lourdes (two times), Angers, Angoulême, five in Belgium Liege, Antwerp, Brussels, Namur, turned.

Switzerland lives a convention in Fribourg, the Asia Mineure in Jerusalem, Italy, in Rome, Lorraine in Metz, England, in London, Germany in Cologne, Canada in Montreal, Spain in Madrid, Austria in Vienna, the island of Malta, Holland in Amsterdam, the United States of America in Chicago. This procession of the Very Saint Sacrament, after having browsed several countries of Europe, to developed his/her/its majestic cortege in Asia and in America.

The next convention, in September 1928, will land at fourth contains in Australia, in Sydney, while the year 1930 will see the triumph of the Christ-King in the host, on the African earth, in Carthage.

The Royalty of Jesus-Host affirms itself thus on the five continents.

The convention of Chicago contemplated the legate pontifica,l the cardinal Illustrissime, Bonzano, PEROTECTEUR OF THE ORDERS OF THE BROTHERS-MINOR. In Australia, the CARDINAL PROTECTEUR OF THE SAME ORDER, the Illustrissime Cardinal Cerretti, will represent the Sovereign Pontiff S.S. Pier XI, gloriously reigning.

The progress of the Catholicism in Australasia prove to be again more constant after one century of religious liberty and apostolate, the church is delighted with to possess eleven hundred thousand supporters there under the conduct of 28 bishops.

The Brothers-Minor exercise the holy ministry in Australia since 1860; but their apostolic goodwill had radiated to the Salomon islands in 1500, to Sumatra, Java, Bornéo in 1550, and Philippines islands since 1576.

It is therefore on the biggest island of the world, in this oceanic continent, that will spread out the splendor of the twenty ninth (29) convention international eucharistique,

In these same regions one century hardly earlier, reigned the barbarism and darkness of the heathenism.

Today, the hierarchy is established and the Eucharist, center of the religion, the liturgy, and the Catholic cult, will attract on the Australian beaches, the cardinals, the bishops, the priests, of the religious, of the supporters of the catholicity all whole.
Magnificent triumph of the penetrations Christians ascendancy mysterious of our pacific King on the minds and on the cœurses.

Can this Australian earth, all radiated of the splendors of the host, to become therefore the basis of an immense shaking of faith the light waves is going to carry light and the truth in all these innumerable islands of Polynesia.

For us, Children of François saint under auspices of our famous holy Pascal boss of the conventions eucharistiques, let's pray for the success of these imposing demonstrations, by the liver and by the love, these two eyes of the soul, let's penetrate the senses summons some conventions, let's pierce the veil eucharistique to see living, pure Jesus there there hearing his/her/its palpitating Cœur of love. By the faith and by the love, these two arms of the soul, let's know to hug the God of the host.

By our life fundamentally Christian, to basis of faith and charity, let's prepare dan our courses, to the God of the Eucharist, a permanent triumph!

  Preface
By the apostolic letter '' Providentissimus Deus '' of November 28, 1897, Léon XIII, immortal by his/her/its deep wisdom and his/her/its sublime enterprises, assigned a boss to the Conventions and in the Association Eucharistiqueses already so fertile among the peoples. To revive the Christian piety towards '' this admirable pledge of love, at a time tie of peace and school of humility, the august Pontiff chose for Boss the one of the saints that was the most flaming of love for the very Saint Sacrament of the altar. The hope of the Christ state Priest to see, under this celestial patronage, the movement eucharistique to produce more abundant fruits.

'' Of all saints, said the Sovereign Pontiff, of which the piety with regard to this sublime mystery seemed to appear with a devotion more ardent, PASCHAL BAYLON yours the first rank. The nature had endowed him of an appeal pronounced for the spiritual things. After one youth saintly past to the care of the herds, he/it kissed a sterner life in the order of the Minor Brothers. The regular contemplation of the Banquet Eucharistique made it progress marvelously in the knowledge of this Divine Mystery, so that this man without letter and without culture could discourse on most elevated dogmas of the faith and even to write pages filled of science. While professing public his/her/its faith to the Mystery of the Eucharist in presence of the heretics, he/it deserved to endure insult and persecution. Emulator of the Tharcisius martyr, he/it was several times threatened with the death. Finally, until in the tomb, he/it seemed to keep his/her/its
deep piety towards the holy Eucharist. One even lives, during his/her/its funeral ceremony, spread in his/her/its coffin, to open the eyes to adore the sacramental cash, to go up it of the elevation.

It is why, concludes the Pontiff, We don't believe that the Catholic Associations of which We speak, can be put under a more powerful protection. As well as We committed the studious youth to the care of Thomas saint of Aquin, the associations of charity to the care of Vincent saint of Paul and the patients with their male nurses to the care of Saint Camille of Lellis and Jean saint of God, so, in the insurance that Our decision will be the origin many spiritual fruits for the Christendom, by the present letters and Our supreme authority, Us declare and let's constitute SAINT PASCHAL BAYLON, special boss of the Convention Eucharistiqueses and all Associations, present or future, that have for object the holy Eucharist, We greatly hope that the examples and Saint's patronage will always increase in more in more the number of the supporters that, by their goodwill and their s advice make like Savior Jésus, unique and supreme principle of all salute. These letters will be worth in perpetuity… ''

If the Saint Father Léon XIII, by a document as solemn, wanted to raise to this distinguished honor a simple brother Franciscan convers and to grant him the preference on the other saints, it is not obvious that the devotion eucharistique of Pascal saint was, as the Pontiff sketches it quickly, his/her/its favorite devotion and marked his/her/its sanctification of a particular seal?

But who knows the life of Pascal saint, this was not that in his/her/its piety towards the Saint Eucharist? Stink well of supporters, I believe, even, among the most fervid friends of the God of our Tabernacles. Is the reason had to the rarity of the Saint's biographies probably (1). does The biography of this in love pilgrim deserve to be known definitely since his/her/its life and his/her/its virtues, as well as his/her/its goodwill to defend the Eucharistique cult, done one suckle proposed to all supporters, by the immortal Pontiff, as model and as ideal, Why then not to speak of Pascal saint in the big regional or world meetings as the one that will take place in Rome, in next May? (2)

The goal of this opuscule is to make better the faithful worshippers of the know very Saint Sacrament, the deep, ardent devotion, seraphic of the celestial Boss of the Convention Eucharistiqueses towards the sublime mystery.

The simple and fast previews that here it is are likely to make be resplendent, without all his/her/its glory, the SAINT OF THE eucharistie, true seraph in presence of the God of our tabernacles, In the order Franciscan, holy Pascal was the biggest successor of this cult eucharistique makes faith and love, gentleness and enthusiasm that, born with the Poverello of foundation, reached the most marvelous development at his/her/its Children!  (1) we give a summary induction of the main works likely to make know our Saint's life, stand them in the first place '' Acts of the Suit '' of Beatification and Canonization kept to the archive the Convent of the Franciscans Spaniard, says them '' Sainti Quaranti.., in Rome. Come then the two more former biographies:

1) the one of Jean Ximénès, friends, mate and superior of Pascal saint, eyewitness of the facts that he/it tells a little in rhetor. His/her/its work, written in Spanish, in 1689, six years after the Saint's death, was published in Valencia, in 1600;les Bollandisteses (Acta Sanct., maii, flight. IV) and the successors of Wadding (Annals Minorums, T.19 and 20) gave us a Latin translation of it.

2) Christophe of Arta also composed the Saint's life, translated from Spanish into Italian toward the end of 1672 (Ière edition to Rome and the 2nde in Venice in 1691). The big merit of X iménès was of us to have kept them.. WRITTEN '' of the Saint, published lately by Salted '' Opusculos of San Pasquale Baylon', Tolède, 1911. - has some finally - some of the best modern biographies: SAINT PASCHAL BAYLON, PARTON OF THE COUERVRES EUCHAIRSITQUESS by the P, Louis - Antoine of Porrentruy, Paris, 1899, containing 82 illustrations out text; VITA DEL GLORIOSO S. PASQUALE BAYLON, by the P Giovanni Giuseppe Gualtieri, Napoli, 1894,; The innonmorato DELLE SS, EUCARESTIA etc, by Mgr Antonio Briganti, Napoli, 1897,; S. PASQUALE BAYLON etc BY Antoine of the Lily

(3) this work was published on the occasion of congressional international Eucharistiques of Rome, in May 1922. Note of the translator. The R.P.Victorin Facchinetti is one of the most brilliant and the most fertile writers of the Italian peninsula. The list of these works is already very imposing, this Franciscan of first value, this nice doctor of the university of Louvain, this professor '' Libero docente '' approved by Govern it Italian saw his/her/its works translated in the main languages of Europe. publisher Lethielleux of Paris, on the occasion of the seventh centenary of the death of François saint, presented the following volumes of the P, Facchinetti,: Be Happy: Be Friends; Be Apostles. This seraphic trilogy became little by little the vademecum of a numerous youth greedy of moral perfection and spiritual conquest, the history of the Poverello told Youth, got the most consoling of successes. M, abbot Philippe Mazoyer translator of these œuvres has the right to the biggest congratulations. Marie's Missionary Franciscans, on their side, threw the French publication of the Saint François of foundation, In history, In the Legend, In The art. True chief-d'œuvre of typographic art, this volume of more than 700 pages, exceptionally illustrated, classified its Author permitted the first Franciscan scholars.

S.S. the Pope Benoît XV, in a long brief very noteworthy, condescended to address the most magnificent praises known R.P. Facchinetti.

Founding and leading of the Circle of Franciscan Culture of Milan, the P.Facchnetti has just assumed the direction of '' Frate Francesco ''. most famous franciscanisants makes themselves a pleasure and a honor to sign the articles of this incomparable magazine, among the other works of the P.Facchnetti, it would not be necessary to forget to signal his/her/its very critical and very complete '' History of Antoine saint of Padou ''. The amateurs of art appeared very thankful in the R.P. to have published his/her/its
'' Iconographia San-Frescana ''..

The apostolate of the R.P.Facchinetti is of the most fruitful; this apostle is, with the Father Gemelli, the pride and the glory of the Franciscan world of today. Note of the translator.

 Chapter 1
The eucharistie and the Franciscans.

8 years to carry prejudice to no saint nor to no religious Order history allows us to affirm that the Poverello and his/her/its innumerable posterity distinguished themselves by a deep piety towards the holy Eucharist, chief of work of the Man - God, source of grace, supreme joy of our souls.

Between a multitude of facts that illustrates this page of history, let's return some of it (1)

Gone 1

All know the reverence whose Seraphic Father surrounded the Tabernacle and the faith in love that he professed for Jesus Hostie. So François of foundation didn't want to be a priest and preferred to stay deacon, it is that, in his/her/its deep humility, he believed himself/itself unworthy of one so sublime function, of a dignity all celestial. The same motive made him venerate the priests of the earth more that the angels of the sky. He/it didn't want to consider the sin among the unworthy priests that he/it could meet '' because, he/it said, these are them that manage us the mind and life. ''

Saint François, teach us the biographers, even went as far as considering like a big contempt of the Sacrament not to hear the Mass every morning when he/it could make it easily. He/it often received communion and with so much devotion as the helpers were built some deeply. He/it ignited of an ardor all seraphic when he/it thought about this Divine Mystery and meditated the ineffable charity of the Immaculate lamb constantly immolated for us. François so poor would have liked to send his/her/its brothers by the world to distribute the chalices and the precious ciboriums in all places or the price of our Redemption '' was not kept with enough respect. He/it used himself/itself himself to sweep, to clean and to decorate the churches; with joy and devotion he/it prepared his/its hands the hosts for the needy churches.

Saint François was even a theologian of the Eucharist. We find in his/her/its opuscules of the letters written to the praise of the divine sacrament addressed one to the clerks and the others to the peoples in order to excite pastors and faithful to a quicker faith and to a more ardent piety. In his/her/its will, the in love Poverello recalls the greeting that he had custom to address even from afar, with his/her/its brothers, to the celestial Prisoner of our tabernacles.

1) to see the work of the P. Candido Mriotti O.F.M. of which I was inspired '' The Eucharist ed i Francescani '', Fano, Soc.typ.cooperativa,1908. The P.Bernardino Sderci Da Gaiole O.F.M. took the same thought in his/her/its speech 'Eucaristia e i Francescani, pronounced to the Convention international Eucharistique of Rome, in June 1905 (Roma, Tip, Sallustina, 1925).
II
With the same ardor, the love eucharistique of the Seraphic Father survived in its sons. One reads in Wadding, to the year 1222, an interesting fact. Two brothers Convers, tell annals, got ready, in the morning of one holy Thursday, to receive the holy communion, when the superior of the convent asks them to go to the quest, upon their return, the office had taken end and the religious were at the refectory. Afflicted not to be able to receive the communion in this noteworthy day, the brothers collection takers leave to the small chapel to confide their pain to Jesus. But has that opens up the door of the tabernacle and a young man of a charming beauty in fate to feed the bread of the angels the good religious.

Who doesn't know at least a feature of the divine love of which burned the heart d ' Antoine of Padua for the august sacrament? Who didn't read the narration of the famous disputes theological that he/it sustained against the heretics and the Jewish these aggressors sacrilegious of the Christ's real presence in the Eucharist, during the years of his/her/its fertile apostolate? This is not this thaumaturge that operated, in Rimini, the famous miracle of the slipper starved by a long fasting and forgetful of the decoy to adore the dedicated Bread?

But they were not less religious towards the Eucharist, God's servants who is, the seraphic, holy doctor Bonaventure, that wrote with a celestial flame or sang better, in his/her/its numerous writings, Jesus' glories-Host; the Jean blesseds of the Averne and Conrad d ' Offida. That one was so often delighted in ecstasy when he/it celebrated the Mass, that one day he/it deserved to see, under the shape of flaming sparks, a big number of souls of the purgatory to go up joyously skywards. The blissful Conrad of Offida, hesitant to approach of the holy table, lives Our standing Lord on the altar to call it to Him. In end the blissful Jean Duns Scot, who acquired itself an immortal glory in the defense of the privilege of l‘Immaculée Conception of Marie, was not less admirable in his/her/its exhibitions of the mystery of the Eucharist and in his/her/its victorious confutation of the objections proposed against this Sacrament for the most audacious old and modern rationalists.

History shows us to one ulterior time the radiant faces of the blissful Jacques of Strepa, teacher, in Poland, of the perpetual worship,; of the blissful Mathieu of Agrigento, famous preacher and blameless bishop, this last ignited of the fire of the cherubs when he/it spoke of the sacrament of the Eucharist. After his/her/its death, he/it rose in his/its coffin to adore, a last time, the bread of the Angels, as his/her/its brother of Spain holy Pascal Baylon; of the Welcome blessed of Gubbio who deserved to contemplate the Divine Child under the cash eucharistiques of the blissful François of Fabriano that, more of once, at the end of the Mass of Requiem, heard the angels and the souls delivered of the purgatory by his/her/its prayers, to answer Amen; finally of the blissful Pierre of Molliano that, about to die, wanted to be transported to the church or he/it received, by the tabernacle, the money of the eternal life, But has the saints reformer of the Franciscan order, Bernardin of Siena, Jean of Capistran and Jacques of the Marche. Apostle of the observance in Italy, they drag the crowds in the ways of the good and master them e n speaking to them prodigies of the Eucharist so narrow puts united to the sweetness, to the power and to the glory of Jesus' name. The blissful Bernardins of Feltre, Albert of Sartiano and Cherub of Spolète found various devout works in order to propagate and to intensify the cult of Jesus-Host.

Who doesn't know this miracles living that holy Laurent of Brindes was? without the sweets of the ecstasy, it needed six, new and same ten hours to celebrate the holy sacrifice because his/her/its eyes became two fountains of tears. Often to the consecration, the Jesus child appeared to him resplendent of glory.

In the XVII and XVIII centuries, with the blissful Charles of Sèze, Diego of Cadix and Bonaventure of Barcelona, we see to appear to holy Leonardo of Port Maurice, the apostle of the devotion to the Path of the cross, to the Virgin Mary and to the holy Mass, He/it spoke of Jesus to the very holy Sacrament with so much unction as his/her/its extinguished listeners forced to pour abundant tears.

He/it is a very known prodigy of which the blissful Charles of Sèze is the recipient. One day that he/it attended the holy Mass in a church of Rome, a luminous ray escaped of the dedicated host and transfixed him the heart.

The blissful Diégo often repeated ' qu he would not be in peace ' qu on the day or the universe would be devoted to the holy Sacrament of the altar. This feature is sufficient for us shows his/her/its ardent devotion towards the august mystery.

The following miracle was operated in favor of the blissful Bonaventure. Whereas he/it didn't have strength to approach of the holy communion, so much he/it believed himself/itself unworthy, a host escaped of the priest's hands and came to land on the lips of God's humble servant.

We could mention the devotion eucharistique of the blesseds Saints of Montefabrone, Sebastian of the apparition, again Aegis-Marie of Naples, André Hibernon, and of the Pacific saints of Saint-Severino, Jean-Joseph of the Cross and Joseph of Cupertino that all knew the ecstasies while receiving the Communion, while celebrating the holy sacrifice of the Mass or as there attending.

We could recall some-some of the Franciscan Apologists that, in every century and under all heaven, wrote the opuscules and volumes to defend or to glorify the Eucharist and of which the names and the works have been united in the work of the P. Mariotti o.f.m.

We could speak of our martyrs who were victims of the barbarism of the Calvinist in Gorcum, in Holland, or that, some in England, in the time of Henri VIII, preferred as the blissful Jean Forest, to be burnt living persons rather than to disown their belief to Jesus' real presence in the Eucharist.

That him I am allowed however to present some of the most beautiful faces, exalted of the splendors eucharistique, that the second and the third Franciscan Orders contain.
III
To the first rank, shine this Virgin of foundation, eldest of the spiritual family of the Poverello and mystic small plant of his/her/its big heart: Claire Scifi, As his/her/its Seraphic Father, Claire recognized in the Eucharist the summary of all mysteries of the Christ's life and the center of his/her/its love; in this conviction, she/it preferred to meditate before the tabernacle that she/it never left without having the blazing heart. By exhortations, the prayers and tears, she/it endeavored to communicate to his/her/its sœurs the flame of his/her/its love for the spouse of the virginal souls.

Sick and constrained to stay immobile on a bed of pain, she/it found strengths to spin the linen and to prepare the corporaux, the purses and other objects necessary to the service of the altars.

An episode of the Saint's life, introverted by history and immortalized by the art, is stayed famous: It is the flight of the Saracens., he/it hurried to the low of the walls of Saint-Damien at the sight of the holy host contained in a rich ostensory that supportive the hands pure of the Virgin of the Lord.

In the continuation of ages, we find holy you Colette of Corbie whose life in love is only an ecstasy eucharistique; holy Catherine of Bologna who liked to pass of the whole nights in worship before the Tabernacle; the blissful Jeanne of the Cross (Spanish) and Eustochium of Messina, in love of an extraordinary love for Jesus-Host.

Later, holy Véronique Juliani and the blissful Madeleine Martinengo let us in their writings, of the imperishable memories of their piety eucharistique. The blissful Crescence Hoss often deserved to be received communion by the angels. And the venerable Marie Isabelle Gherzi stays famous by his/her/its prayers jaculatoires that she had custom to throw the Divine Prisoner as as many love features:

'' Oh my rich Treasure,
Oh my soft Support'
Oh my Consolatory truth,
Oh my soft Torment,
My life, my King ''!
IV
Among the sons of the Third Order of François saint, let's mention at least the bosses of the Tertiary. Saint Louis, king of France, heard every morning the holy Mass in an ecstatic prayer and knelt itself humbly to the foot of the altar every time that he had joy and honor to receive the King of the Kings. Saint Elisabeth of Hungary found in the Bread Eucharistique, the secret of a marvelous strength, She became a model of Christian resignation, in the middle of the biggest miscalculations and the deepest humiliations.

Let's recall the memory of the small Rose of Viterbe that was, among his/her/its fellow citizens, the apostle of the noblest religious and patriotic ideas. She/it succeeds, while eating every day of the Flesh and the Christ's Blood, to maintain itself/themselves pure and angelic in the middle of the corruption and to deliver his/her/its homeland of an oppressive yoke.

The holy Véridianes and Zita of Lucca and the blissful Jeanne of Signed, poor and humble maids, reached the highest summits of the perfection while confiding entirely in the God of our tabernacles

Saint Marguerite of Cortone drew in the frequent communion, the energy necessary to his/her/its transformation and to his/her/its continual ascension in the ways of the atonement and the sacrifice. This devout convenient printed the sublime Penitent, nicknamed the Madeleine of the Franciscan order, the character of his/her/its sanctification.

We can say as much the blissful Angèle of Foligno that meditated Jesus' Passion customarily to the foot of the tabernacle of it. Illuminated stupendously in his/her/its ecstasies, she/it wrote a small treaty' '' Unions and received consolations in the very holy Sacrament of the altar '', Real poem or she/it sings joys summons tasted in his/her/its meditations eucharistiques.

So much other flowers again we will be able to pick in the Franciscan garden! Lily of purity, violets of humility, roses to the perfumes of love, germinated at a time under lights and the heat of the Divine Sun of our tabernacles! The marvelous aroma of their virtues embalmed the peoples of all ages. Such appear to the blissful Delphine with his/her/its virginal spouse holy Elzéar, the Jeanne saints of bow, Angèle of Thank you, Marie-Françoise, Brigitte, François-Roman, saints Joseph Labre and Jean-Marie Vianney, the blissful Benoît Cottolengo and the venerable Don Bosco. These are as many celestial faces that are us dear and of which life eucharistique would deserve to be told for a long time.

But the plan of this work doesn't allow it to me, either that the desire impatient to present to the readers the physiognomy of the humble Franciscan that deserved, after having been the most faithful representative of the mind eucharistique in the order of François saint to be proclaimed special boss of all Œuvres Eucharistiqueses
II CHAPTER

Predestined it of the Eucharist 1
This is how me hello the gracious child been born in Torre Hermosa, in Spain, May 16, 1540, day of the Passover of the Pentecost, as one says in the pays(1)

This coincidence inspired his/her/its related pickets, Martin Baylon and Isabelle Juberos, to give him to the baptism Pascal's name, the child's life had to achieve this happy omen while being one Easter continual with the Lord.

Soon he/it revealed the precious grants of which the mind - Saint had filled his soul, His/her/its precocious love for Jesus-Host especially appeared of very good hour.

One day Donna Isabelle took the child in the church. He was so young that he could not walk alone. Who explained to this angelet the Jesus presence in the tabernacle? No one would know how to say it. But while looking fixedly at the door of the tabernacle, the small Pascal showed his satisfaction in an angelic smile and himself, he made the sign of the cross.

Since this moment, the child felt attracted by a mysterious strength toward God's house. Henceforth he/it had taught the path of it and a short time after crawling more that leading, he/it returned to the church. His/her/its mother worried of his/her/its absence, searched for it everywhere. She/it finally found it at the church on the degrees of the altar prostrated in an ecstatic worship. So much time this stage repeated itself! Nor caress, nor threat, nor promise could not stop the small Pascal from being going to hold company to the Prisoner of love. But when he/it had the age of reason, he/it understood that the duty of a good child is to be submitted to his/her/its parents. '' Full of respect for his/her/its father and his/her/its mother, say his/her/its biographers, he/it doesn't disobey to them anymore. ''

To seven years, one confided him the care of the herd. Let's see to take to it to his/her/its office with a man's seriousness and to watch with solicitude over the brief confided to his/her/its vigilance. In the middle of his/her/its life of bank, in his/her/its solitude of the fields, he/it delivered himself/itself with love to the piety and dedicated itself gladly to the prayer and to the meditation. Only one thing made him the pain: this was not to be able to visit Jesus-Host often, The church was too distant.

To comfort itself/themselves, he/it drove grazed his/her/its herd by one kid chapel of the Virgin. When he/it had forced of itself to move away of it to look for the more abundant grazings of it, he/it engraved the picture of the Madonne on his/her/its crook and surmounted it of a cross. It will be the altar before which the ingenuous shepherd will kneel to recite his/her/its fervid prayers.

This is how developed himself the germs of the most beautiful virtues deposited in his/her/its soul with the grace of the baptism. If he/it could not satisfy his/its desire with to frequent the Table Eucharistique assiduously and to visit every day Jesus in his/her/its tabernacle, his/her/its piety supplied there. The purity, the humility, the charity, the faith, the justice, courage and the love of poverty, the renouncement and the sacrifice threw deep roots at the same time in his/her/its soul. The desire of the solitude, the aspiration toward cloisters it Franciscan grew from day to day and ripened in his/her/its heart.

(1)En drawing this profile of the Saint Boss of the Œuvres Eucharistiqueses I used the sources enumerated in the preface. The physiognomy of saying Pascal will deserve to be studied for longer, would appear the whole size of the humble Then only religious us in his/her/its devotion to the Eucharist but in the others demonstrations of his/her/its holiness. Maybe I would find, one day, the leisures to approach this very interesting topic.
II
To an age very young, holy Pascal can observe the dress of the Franciscans closely, he counted among his/her/its cousins, a child of François' name. Of the the age of seven years, his/her/its parents according to a devout custom of the Catholic Spain dressed it in Franciscan in order to assure him the protection of his/her/its seraphic Boss, the François jeun fell sick and his/her/its cousin came to pay a visit to him. Pascal was attracted quickly toward the vacant homespun that he donned with happiness. But at the time of the departure, when it was necessary to abandon the dress, Pascal refused himself/itself of it, He wanted to become Franciscan this dress belonging to him, he said.

One implored it He/it continued to forbid his/her/its rights the homespun of the Sons of François saint. One threatened it, but in vain. It was only on his/her/its mother's express command that he/it agreed to strip itself/themselves of the poverty liveries. He/it didn't return them without bathing them of his/her/its tears, nor without showing his/her/its attachment for this holy dress.

To the other days, Pascal lives a Franciscan to walk naked feet. Immediately he/it wants to imitate it and browses a long distance without any protection for his/her/its feet.
III
Some years later, Martin Gracia, chief of the shepherds, very rich and without children, who had noticed the virtue of the devout young man, proposed him to adopt it like son and to constitute it heir of the his/her/its hoe. But Pascal thanked him for it, declaring that him before résolut to abandon the world and e to dedicate itself/themselves to God while marrying Lady Poverty to the imitation of Saint François.

The young man often spoke of his/her/its Franciscan vocation to his/her/its friend of heart, Jean Apparizio, He asked him to ask God so that he condescended to demonstrate him his/her/its holy will.

The prayer of the pickets young people were granted soon, one morning Pascal prayed, according to his/her/its habit, before the tabernacle, Saint François and holy Claire appeared to him and exhorted it to not to abandon his/her/its intentions and to walk courageously on their traces. '' They revealed qu at the same time young man, said the chronicle, of the things that he/it didn't want to confide to no one ever and announced him the other Franciscan next visit, what arrived. '' We know that the two Saints of the Eucharist didn't leave the young without having strengthened it in his/her/its piety towards the holy Sacrament and without having inflamed his/her/its heart of a bigger love for Jesus-Host. The tradition even wants that they donned it of the delivered seraphic that his/her/its Apparizio friend discovered one day under his/her/its coat.

At the hour marked by the Providence, Pascal says farewell to his/her/its parents and to his/her/its friends, gave up the domestic inheritance, moved away of his/her/its village and left toward kingdom of Valencia or he entered at the Franciscans of the Saint Jean-Baptist Province, even fragrant of the virtues of Pierre saint of Alcantara. Arrived to the door of the Convent of Monteforte, the humble young man had not courage to ask for his/her/its admission to the religious because him himself too unworthy believer to be received in their Order. Him résolut of himself better to prepare to the religious life while owing shepherd again. He/it exercised his/its modest use to the about a hermitage and a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of Lorette and under the dependence of the Franciscans.

During these four years of voluntary probandat, whereas he/it was probably member of the Third Order, his/her/its life is admirable, It was the model of his/her/its mates and made the edification of the Religious.

To moderate the divine fire of which consumed itself his/her/its soul, Pascal often went to the convent of Loreto. There he/it confessed, received communion and conversed fraternally with the sons of the Poverello, these prayed to like the young man like a brother while Pascal had a deep reverence for the Religious.

It was especially when he/it could attend the holy Mass and receive the communion, tell us the biographers, that the devout young man spilled sound swoons in lover symposia with Jesus-Host.

His/her/its new master knew the u appeal quickly young shepherd for the prayer and his/her/its need to frequent the God of the tabernacles. He/it allowed him then to attend the Mass not only Sunday but every day of the saint. What was not Pascal's joy! He/it stayed prostrate in an ecstatic contemplation before the tabernacle, followed with a deep emotion the drama of the holy Sacrifice and, with an ineffable feeling of worship, liver and love received communion to the Body of the Christ and his/her/its very precious, Only Blood the thought of the duty could pull it to his/her/its raptures and move away it of the small golden door that hid his/her/its Treasure.

So Pascal was obliged to move away of the holy sacrament, Jesus - Host didn't leave the young t man and operated astonishing prodigies pure to comfort this soul of the vision of the real presence.

The biographers are unanimous to affirm that more the young man advanced in age, more as grew his/her/its love for the Eucharist. This love of Jesus-Host will be the particular seal of his/her/its piety. When in the far him hearing the bell to call the supporters in the holy Mass, if it was necessary to keep his/her/its herd in the country, he/it united of mind to the divine sacrifice and the elevation prostrated in worship.

Sorry not to can, to the priest's communion, to approach of the banquet eucharistique as the luckier souls, he/it called his/its Lord with devotion, implored it to come in his/her/its heart, to appear to his/her/its look in love to rejoice his/her/its solitude, to satiate his/her/its hunger and his/her/its thirst and to comfort his/her/its soul.

One day or Pascal, knelt in the dust, held his elevated look skywards, he lives in airs a choir of angels to carry the holy Sacrament in an ostensory of gold, he could not believe, in his/her/its humility; that such a prodigy was operated for him only, he invited s the other shepherds to adore the holy host; but his/her/its mates didn't see anything of the celestial apparition. They only saw the angelic splendor emanating Pascal's divine company in worship before the Saint of the Saints.

The Christian art popularized this big prodigy and the church sings it in his/her/its liturgy. If one believes a devout tradition of it, it was not the unique time or the holy Sacrament condescended to visit the devout shepherd.

Often, let's not like ourselves to believe, Notre-Dame of lorette that liked the humble Saint of which she/it was liked so much, she/it didn't send her/its angels to carry him the dedicated bread conversed with a seraphic love to the shade of the tabernacle at the Franciscans of the neighboring convent!

This is how the author of all grace reigned triumphally at the lover predestined of the Eucharist. While filling his/her/its soul of the celestial blessings, the Divine Mr. prepared it with a stupendous wealth to big favors, to the mystical marriages of the Immaculate lamb, in the e religion the humble Saint that the immortal Dante qualified of all seraph in ardor.
